LnG CONSOLE suggestions from a serious gamer.
Hello ladies and Gentleman,

I would Like to start by saying that I am a professional gamer for MLG(Major League Gaming), I've placed top 8(out of hundreds of teams) numerous times for a little game called Gears of War. In short I want to tell you that I know my stuff when it comes to competitive gaming and I'm hoping this little gem can one day become a title for MLG or other gaming organizations(WCG, or even local lan centers, etc. etc.). So where do we start... Well first off, I would like to say that I think you guys have something special within this game, the look, the feel and the fact that its completely focused on multiplayer is awesome, plus, not to mention the extremely generous price tag! I also love the fact that you guys released a BETA for the game to ensure that your released copy is as close to perfect as can be(every company should do this with multiplayer games). Even though I am a console gamer I still got a chance to play the BETA on the pc(with an xbox 360 controllerBig Grin) Here are some suggestions/HOPES I have and maybe some Ideas that might make some of the features already in the game possibly better for the console version.

Idea1. System Link! I don't know how expensive something like this would be for you guys to add, but can you please support Lan capabilities for us console gamers, this is huge in the competitive gaming world! Without it, most tournaments for XBOX360 would be impossible due to the malicious stuff gamers do to the connection when competing online. Also having Lan capabilities allows for intense face to face action and virtually eliminates latency issues. Furthermore, I am aware that this game will only be available for download for console via the marketplace but I've also re-purchased games like Gears of War from the marketplace and right from my hard drive I can still hook up a system link connection to play on lan so I know its possible.

Idea2.Customization: "If you build it they will come" basically says it all. Please make it so that upon release players can create private matches and customize them to their liking. I'm not asking that you give us the ability to change your game types completely but just to tweak them to offer a better competitive environment if needed. So things like match times, size of rooms (2,4,6,8, and 10 player games)so no one can join in during games that are in progress, respawn times, respawn amount(0,5,10,infinite respawns), and friendly fire on/off should all be customizable. Lastly and probably the most obvious, flexibility with controller configurations. I know for a fact that people will love that they don't have to play with default configurations when they're coming from games like Gears of War, Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3 etc etc. which all have similar but different configurations, in other words theres no need to re-invent the wheel. NOTE: I want to make it as clear as possible that I'm talking about the customization of PRIVATE matches only, my intentions are not to suggest to you guys on how RANKED matches should be set up.

Idea3. Deputies tagging ability: I noticed that the icon to show that the opponent has been tagged is dead smack on the center of the character. This sometimes gets in the way for precision shots so I thought of two simple solutions: 1. instead of the icon, you can use a red outlining(like the one you already use in the game prior to tagging) around the targeted enemy and have him/her visible though out the map like your teammates are but instead of the white "friendly" outline it will be the red "danger/enemy" outline. 2. You can simply raise the icon above the targeted enemy's head, so the the enemy is completely visible with the icon not in the way.

Idea4. Downing/kill notification system: I noticed I was having trouble playing as the trapper in recognizing whether I was downing or actually killing people. I understand that there's symbols to differentiate whether you have downed or killed someone, but I feel as if its in an obscure place and it takes my focus out the game to look all the way up to the right corner to read it. This could potentially leave players vulnerable and less efficient in their decision making. A simple suggestion that could make it more efficient are as follows: upon downing someone, that shot could have a down arrow symbol next to the damage points, or if he/she is killed it could have a skull next to the damage points.

I am so excited for this game and I believe this game is shaping up to be one of the best shooters for the Xbox360(you guys are gonna be stealing gamersWink). Please understand that these suggestions will not hurt the gameplay or ruin the foundation of the game, they are just simple ideas that can and will benefit all types of gamers from casual to hardcore. I appreciate FAT SHARK and your dedication to this game and it's community and hope you guys take these ideas under serious consideration.

Thank you so much,

CDN The 3rd a.k.a. Caesar

ps. I've been spreading the word about this game since I've found out about it and lots of people are excited and interested in this game. I can also assure you word of mouth is some of the best advertisement and you can bet I'll continue to spread the word.

A gears player with good grammar? I never thought I'd see the day. Wink

I agree with all of these points, all of which are very important for a game to be competitive.

scissoring caesar. good post man. i put up a thread with some of my concerns that could make or break this game... but a lot of your ideas I must have slept on.

System Link is of utmost importance as far as competitive play. Playing on LAN is amazing. Its how any game should be played, pure, beautiful, with no unfair advantages.

Customization is huge too. Without it the game has to be nearly flawless when shipped. Or it doesnt stand a chance. Just giving options for even the most core elements would help a lot. Getting down to the nitpicky parts would be nice but not expected. Deputy tagging kind of falls under this too. If it gets in the way... ATLEAST have an option to take it off. Thats not too much to ask is it?

Downing notifications would make sense too. As well as point systems that arent all-or-nothing. Kids on xbox love to killjack and take what isnt theirs. Make the downs discernible. You wont see anyone arguing against that idea.

Good post tho CDN. Here's a link to mine if you want to see some ideas I had. I put more emphasis on what was absolutely necessary for XBOX success. Competitive could only emerge if some of the things I mentioned were dealt with adequately.

I 110% agree. This game reminds me of GoW with the capability to jump. This game needs system link (LAN)!!!!

These are great ideas for competitive and casual play alike. one thing id like to add is PLEASE DO NOT add auto-aim to the console versions to this game. Im playing the beta with an xbox controller and the aiming is perfect the way it is
